StartPage is a metasearch engine initially created by two Dutch computer scientists in 1999 as Ixquick. Both Ixquick and its sister site, NewIxquick, were designed to provide users with a more private way to find search results by masking the users' IP addresses and stripping tracking cookies from the Internet searches they perform, which can lead to them being profiled. On March 29, 2016, StartPage and NewIxquick merged into one website and added a StartPage logo to make it easier for people to remember its web address.
